Second-level domains
Second-level domains are those in the DNS system that come after top-level domains. For example, “Nike” is the second-level domain of the “.com” top-level domain in “Nike”.com”. Second-level domains frequently contain the name of the company or vendor who registered the domain with the operator. The identification for prospective customers is the brand name, company name, or project name. There are country code second-level domains in addition to these generic second-level domains (cc SLD). In these circumstances, the second-level domain will be located to the right of the period, for instance, in a domain like “nik.co.ca,” the cc SLD is “.co” and the country code top-level domain is “.ca”.
